With
this Driveway Gate Design, the upper wood pickets are held to only
1/2" spacings, with the lower planks spaced similarly, aligning
every third spacing with the upper section. As a 2-1/4" thickness,
there is no steel frame (12' overall width or less). Using only single
6x6 posts, the load is held by joining another set of posts with
small connecting panels. All posts cut flush with the top of the
gate with the post-tops epoxied.
Privacy is a relative
issue. The friendlier design of joined pickets is far
more inviting than the solid mass of a panel gate. The
spacing between the pickets, when privacy is a concern, can
simply be tightened,
Typically, a 3/4" spacing
renders the view through the pickets obscure at a 7-degree angle.
The connecting, or flanking
Fence Panels, with their solid inserts and full tenoned joinery,
combine the strength and rigidity of duel posts.
