Prowell’s original concept for their outdoor wood garden gates and construction methodology is presented on the following pages, once representing the first phase in raising the bar on Landscape Furnishings. Setting a benchmark far above the level of work that was being designed and fabricated prior to Prowell’s introduction of its earliest wood gate design in 1992. Created with the principles of stile and rail construction. Each of the primary mortised joints within these garden gate designs is secured with an interlocking mortise-and-tenon joint to insure the greatest structural character. There are no screws or nails or metal fasteners.
We are happy to consider jpegs or snapshots of your landscape and architecture in an effort to design to the needs of an existing precedent.
The objective is not to create something that appears as a beacon of workmanship and design. The objective is to design and introduce a portion of your landscape design that works as a whole.
For 47 years, Prowell Woodworks has been committed to the development of new and innovative products. Within these galleries, and the entire web site, what appears are those products and designs that translate into something close to a flexible product line.
Regarding the Leap of Faith: Or, the His n’ Her principle.
If you have reviewed the specifications and the extenuating details and asked all the right questions and a few superfluous questions and continue to hover, to sidle the intangibles of a commitment, consider how you may be allowing the pragmatist more weight than it deserves. If the gate designs move you, and the workmanship affects you in some pleasant way, then it’s as simple as imagining that pleasantry repeated every time you enter or leave your house. So if you have an argument with your Significant Other and you leave the house in a huff and get to the gate and through the gate your attitude suddenly changes, softens, and you turn back, and going through the gate a second time you’re left as sappy and soft as a puppy and because likely it was your Significant Other who insisted on the gate in the first place, she/he will be standing at the doorstep, tapping her/his foot on the landing with his/her hands on his/her hips calculating the cost of having Prowell’s wood garden gates scattered everywhere.
If we may, from John Ruskin’s 1943 edition of Audel’s Carpenters and Builders Guide: ” When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for; and let us think , as we lay stone on stone, that a time is to come when those stones will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, ‘See! This our father did for us.
