The front porch railing 4 is continuous pickets mortised into the top and bottom horizontal rails.
Although our rails are normally dictated by the UBC (Uniform Building Codes) to be between 36″-42″ ht, this is applicable only for those porches and decks rising more than 18″ off the grade. Here, at only 6″ rise, our homeowners could have gone with a shorter height, but the practicality of shorter railing heights is illustrated in the occasional mishap when someone falls over the railing. Waist height is safe. Too much shorter is unsafe.

A rare project where Prowell supplied the railing posts, creating the inserts to recess the copper reliefs that were designed by the homeowner and purchased through a third party. The posts are bracket-mounted to the stone.
