For painted finishes, the drive gates should be hung in place and exposed to the elements for two to three weeks prior to any paint finishes. Not so the cedar can dry, but because it’s genetics are from British Columbia and your local climate will undoubtedly vary from that of a rain forest. Ss it acclimates, the cedar will expand and contract for a week or two before stabilizing. If you paint upon arrival, the paint may, or may not, flex with the cedar.

Prowell’s Joinery 10. A full 1″ thick traditional tenon cut from the rail. The exposed tenon features two oak wedges, driven in to tighten a joint against any possibility of misbehaving over the coming decades, or perhaps centuries. Who can really say? In a hundred years the earth will be host to all new people, more or less. No one will know a prowell from a dowel.
