CUSTOM WOOD ARBOR 11

Garden wood arbor 11 as a 4-post assembly. Ships fully assembled, with mounting caps in place. Designed to be lifted and set onto the site posts and secured in place. Requiring less than an hour.
The mounting caps are mortised to create a pocket for the posts–in the event the posts are not cut perfectly square. The weight of the below example, at 40″ between posts, is about 75 lbs.

Not sure what our homeowner has in mind here; there’s nothing in the viewable architecture calling for the aesthetics of arbor 11.   Over the decades we’ve learned how certain commissions are simply the result of a not-to-be-denied yearning. A work of art installed front-and-center, visible to everyone.

Spans and stress loads are at the heart of architecture. The structural engineer’s education requires mounds of math and the comparative properties of the materials in use. This all goes into the stratagem of any resulting architectural design. What we have with Arbor 11 is the maturing results of Arbor 3. Coupling dual beams with wenge thru-tenons to create a beam that is significantly rigid over greater spans.

Using a series of scrapers, cleaning the wenge tenons of any glue residue. Better than working a piece of sandpaper in a tight area.

A lthough the shop has since been equipped with an industrial heater and AC, for several years we made do during the winter cold spells with the use of simple electric blankets to enhance the glue set-up time. Set to a timer of two hours. during the wet and cold winters, the set-up time for glues is shortened by using a simple electric blanket set to a timer of two hours.

Mock posts are set to insure the dimensions between posts match the customer’s specifications.
