Our lower sections makes for a wood-heavy asembly: mortised planks at 3-3/4″W x 1-3/8″T, spaced at 1″. Because of it’s weight, the drive gates #39 are likely going to require steel support. Hopefully, with installed installation, we’ll have some photos illustrating the steel specifications. Basically, a simple 1/8″T plate up the hinge edge and along the bottom about 2/3rds the width of each gate. A plate gusset at the bottom corner.

INTEGRITY PINS 39

The Craftsman raised and beveled integrity pins. ½” x ½” and ⅛” off the face of the gate.  

#39–PROGRESS

The pilot holes can be a ½” forstner bit or a ½” mortising bit chucked into your drill press. The Mahogany pins are tapered on the disk sander.

Tap the pins in with a rubber mallet to bury the taper.

Using a 1/8″T piece of plywood, cut the pins to length.

With a thin trowel to protect the face, file the bevels with a file or sanding block and follow up with a sanding block (120 grit) to smooth the tops.
