Wood gate 113 was designed to compliment an existing precedent to a surrounding 3rd party fence. The normal spacing of 1-1/2″ is reduced to only 3/4″+-. Because the center pickets are narrow enough to potentially bow over the years, and the narrow spacing will accentuate any bow, we have stabilized the narrow pickets with a series of 1/2″ oak dowels, barely visible in the image below.

Hopefully we’ll eventually be sent site photos of this gate from the residence in Larkspur, CA.

As the original design for #113, there are no stabilizing dowels, and consequently vulnerable to the narrow pickets misbehaving (bowing, cupping). Without exception, every single one of Prowell’s gates were first introduced as speculative designs, and with each successive order, that original design is revised and improved until we have it right. So upon our next order for a #113-1, we simply made this small improvement, which makes a difference not upon delivery but in the decades to come.

Custom wood gate 113-1 illustrates the Double Off-Set on the other side of the property. With a 60″ or so opening, two equal 30″ gates are too narrow for either one to pass through comfortably. So we have one operable picket gate at 42″ and the other fixed picket gate at 18″, set in place with the bronze cane bolt #80-100.
