WOOD GARDEN GATE 54
As with the outdoor ate 57, the continuous pickets of gate 54 require either Pattern Blocks or the arched cross-arm to stabilize the pickets from possibly warping or bowing over the decades from their original alignment.

WOOD GARDEN GATE 54-2
Larkspur, CA (Marin County)
One of the earliest Prowell wood gates. Created for a residence in Marin County, California in the early 1990’s. The photos appearing below were taken on a recent site visit in March of 2011. Interesting to note that Prowell also created the fence, about 6 years prior to developing the signature garden fence panels that has become such a prevalent fixture within the Prowell catalog.

Charles was impressed to note that after 20+ years, there appeared to be signs of neither sagging nor distressed joints. The teak beading along the arbor beams and at the bottom of the posts has been regularly oiled. Picket gate 54 stands like new.

The original gate latch Charles designed and fabricated as a marriage of teak and stainless steel. Gravity-weighted to self-close.

The Garden Gate Arbor carries two levels of flush-mortised grid-panels that lay into the assembly from above, topped with an arching layer of weathered copper tubes, shown below.

Another look at the mildly dizzying effect of the lapping layers. Shot on a rainy afternoon–hence the lens spots.

Another original photo of garden gate 54-2 taken in the early 1990’s with what appears to be a sepia filter.
Showing the top arching copper tubing.
