Front wood gates #104 in Los Angeles, framed by a solid hedge. #104 is one of those offerings that’s simply not for everyone. A combination of the white opaque windows, diverse panel sizes and orientations, and the french curve epoxy inlays all make for a fairly eclectic front gate design. But then, one is forever reminded how the process of anyone’s existence often encompasses something more than an appeal to the most common denominator.

There was a group of photographers in the 30’s and 40’s who called themselves the f/64 Group. Imogene Cunningham, Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and others who went against the current trend of open exposure shutter speeds in lieu of the far more technical and difficult setting of the slow shutter speeds, or higher F-Stops. The results were sharp, tightly focused photographs that survived the ensuing onslaught of those late-to-the-party simply because of the tutelage required to shoot at the higher settings. Old-school fundamentals, hands-on techniques. The Prowell gates of the #200 Series are not comparable to the photos of the f/64 group, and yet they share the similarity of a more demanding skill-set, and the resulting aesthetics that exist apart from the expectations of the trending times.
